Friendship

A COMMUNITY PROJECT
HAMMELBURG, GERMANY

For five days, we immersed ourselves in the world of the kids and teens at the Hammelburg youth center — listening to their stories and painting a mural about friendship together.

By the end, the mural was done, and the celebration began: an ukrainian boy rapped in Russian, Konni, Annas Dad, played the accordion, and Anna sang a song that brought everyone together. Even those who had argued days before joined in a spontaneous karaoke session — united in joy.

Anastasia and Amy

Anastasia and Amy were at the youth center every day, and over time we got to know them better. Both around eleven years old, they’re close friends — full of energy and ideas.

Their friendship is lively and sometimes a bit competitive, but beneath that, there’s a deep bond between them. We spent time drawing and playing together. One day they proudly brought oven fries to share with us.

When Amy had to leave early, Anastasia stayed behind, enjoying a quiet moment of peace. It felt like both of them were soaking up the attention and connection. It was simply about being seen, heard, and having someone to play with. Moments like these seemed to mean a lot to them.
