Centre Culturel Palmeraie – Chad 2023

A COMMUNITY PROJECT
IN N'DJAMENA, CHAD

For the second time, we had the privilege of working with the Tubus, a unique cultural group made up of the Tedaga, Dazaga and Kanembu groups.

In an inspiring collaboration, we not only offered workshops, but also painted the newly built Center Palmeraie together. Immerse yourself in a story of growth, cultural identity, and collaborative creation!

The first time you go to a country as a stranger, the second time you come back as a friend!

Workshops

We held two workshops as part of the project. The illustration and film workshop gave participants the opportunity to express their stories visually and create their own small video clips. In addition, the literacy classes taught important basics of reading and writing. The workshops were not only learning opportunities, but also a chance for the participants to proudly present their cultural identity and discover and develop their skills.

A big part of the project was the creation of the newly built Center Palmeraie. Here we painted the walls together with the participants of the Concours to give the place a unique identity.

Inspired by the culture of the Tubus and their connection to the desert, we created an oasis with palm trees and fruits, framed by flying books. The painted center is now a place of gathering and exchange for the three language groups to celebrate their communities, languages and cultures.

This picture gives me hope. It’s an image of what I’ve dedicated my life to. That we are all equal, that we all have a voice that matters, and that it is possible for Christians and Muslims to create something beautiful together.
