Multicultural School Community – Rumania 2022

A COMMUNITY PROJECT BY CUP OF COLOR
IN TÂRGU MUREȘ, ROMANIA

You have brought color into our lives and the lives of the children. We felt very comfortable together and we like very much what you have done these days.
— Eva, mother

In an area where conflicts among different cultures are not uncommon, we painted, together with Romanian, Hungarian, and Roma children, a 50-meter long school wall. Around the theme of "dreams" the children expressed their own ideas on the clouds on the wall.

At the end, we organized a party with the help of so many different people. Parents of the children baked cakes, the school management organized music and dance, a school employee brought his seven baby bunnies, some of the Romanian children baked biscuits which they distributed, friends prepared iced coffee and lemonade, and the children of the Roma community brought red balloons which they hung up. In was beautiful to see how we all together celebrated this project and to see the pride in the eyes of every child who participated.

Working on a common canvas with young and old, with Romanians, Hungarians, and Romas from diverse tribes in an environment of distance and mutual aversion takes a lot. Cup of Colors projects build bridges to each other and the visual arts bring life and hope to former communist buildings.
